Rubbish disposal
Sir.—Residents in the northeast areas must remain aware that a huge rubbish dump could become a reality in this area, and get behind the organisations appealing against the decision to go ahead. (1) How can rubbish be held in by fences while rubbish hills grow to 25 metres or 80 feet? Why is this not done on present dumps? (2) Rules and regulations related to the dump could be broken in time if the refuse committee had financial problems. (3) Combine Paparua, Heathcote, city and Waimairi rubbish dumps and residents can see the size of the proposed dump in Waimairi. This stinking rubbish dump is not wanted next to built-up areas, with the trucking problem. Remember it’s too late to complain later.—Yours, etc.,
