Trust board’s gifts ‘meagre’
Angry Hornby residents are calling for the dismissal of the Hornby Licensing Trust Board, which they say has failed to direct its profits in a community-minded manner.
A petition, calling for the board's dismissal, is being circulated in the trust’s area by two Hornby residents. Messrs A. S. Malcolm and F. D. Morgan. ' Mr Malcolm, who is on the Hornby District Community Council, said yesterday that the trust was too concerned with its building programme, and was not putting enough
money back into the community. Mr Malcolm said that in: 1980 the trust gave $947 out / of a net profit of $31,583. 3 ( “These meagre contribu- ? tions are an absolute dis-t
grace for a licensing trust hotel whose main concern should be serving the community,” he said. But the chairman of the board. Mr D. S. Goulding, said that there was “not terribly much money to give out." “The trust has done a lot of good for the people and the area, but you cannot get blood out of a stone," he said.
