B. Griffin improving
PA Palmerston North The apprentice jockey, Barry Griffin, who was seriusly injured in a fall from a horse at Awapuni two weeks ago, is improving in Palmerston North Hospital. A hospital spokesman said that Griffin, aged 17, had improved sufficiently to be moved out of the intensivecare unit to a general ward. Griffin, who is apprenticed to his father, Murray Griffin, at Awapuni, fell from Strike Free during the last race at the Ashhurst-Pohangina meeting on January 25.
He received concussion and head injuries after he fell in the path of two other horses.
