Aust, trip depends on form
Special correspondent Auckland Whether Te Puke Expects and Hochenheim go to Perth for the Inter-Dominion Championships will depend on their form at the Auckland Trotting Cup meeting, which opens on February 6. The pair are trained by the Kumeu father and son combination of George and Jim Cole. “The owners are. keen for them to run in the Championships,” said Jim Cole yesterday. “But it all hinges on how they go at the Auckland meeting. Obviously,, there would not be much point in
going if their form is not good.” Cole said he and his father were very pleased with the way Te Puke Expects and Hochenheim had been shaping since they last raced — Te Puke Expects was second in the New Zealand Messenger at Alexandra Park on December 30 and Hochenheim won there on December 19. Te Puke Expects will contest the Tudor t Hanover Stakes at Cambridge on Saturday evening. He has a C 9 assessment and needs one win to be sure of a start in the $120,000 Cup at Alexandra Park on February 12.
