Runner seeks rematch in N.Z.

NZPA Melbourne The Australian triple: silver medallist, Raylene Boyle, will race in the New Zealand international track series later this month. The Melbourne Olympian will contest the 400 m event at Auckland’s Mount Smart stadium on January 30. Miss Boyle, aged 30, who is preparing for next October’s Commonwealth Games 400 m in Brisbane, hopes to again clash with the New Zealand champion, Kim Robertson, who easily beat the Australian over 400 m at the Melbourne Alcoa international meeting last Thursday. Shaken by her Melbourne defeat, Miss Boyk: came back strongly to defeat England’s Janene McGregor in the Sydney Alcoa 400 m race last Monday. Miss Robertson did not contest that event, preferring to race in the 100 m and 200 m sprints, which she won easily. Miss Boyle’s coach, Ron Dewhurst, said yesterday: “Raylene needs pressure racing, that is why we are going to Auckland.”

Miss Boyle will end her international racing career at the Commonwealth Games.

“She is playing for big stakes, and cannot afford to make any mistakes like she did in Melbourne, as Brisbane will be her last chance,” Mr Dewhurst said. Mr Dewhurst believes that Miss Boyle must reduce her present 400 m time of 52.4 by two seconds if she is to win the gold medal in Brisbane.
