Hijack trial in March
NZPA-Reuter Durban Forty-five men charged with hijacking an Air India Boeing 707 after a coup attempt in the Seychelles last November have been ordered to stand trial in a South African court on march 10.
At a court hearing in Durban the State served each man with an indictment containing four charges under the Civil Aviation Offences Act. South Africa's tough anti-hijack law. The charges carry sentences ranging ftjom five to 30 years jail. The men, led by an Irish mercenary. Colonel. Michael ("Mad Mike") Hoare, were ordered to appear for trial in Pietmariizburg. capital of Natal province. The Seychelles President (Mr Albert Rene) has said the 45 were mercenaries hired to topple him. Seven others held in connection with the coup attempt will appear in court in the Seychelles' capital of Victoria today.
