Impressive work by Rascal
Special correspondent Hastings Marion candidates. Rascal and Verdi, did a lot to enhance their chances for tomorrow with solid trials on the Hastings track yesterday morning. Galloping was done on the plough and No.l grass. Both tracks were fast. Rascal only had a light weight up but was nevertheless impressive in his 1200 m workout on the plough. He clocked Imin 15.65. picking up a stablemate. Meg's Gem. on the way. They came home the last 600 in a smart 36.85. Rascal was placed in highweight company at Hastings two starts back and is entered for the McDonald Highweight tomorrow.
Verdi was keen to go fast when let run along from the 1000 m peg on the plough. He was hitting out strongly all the way and recorded Imin 4.45. the last 600 in <38.65. David Withington will ride him in the Marton Cup. Mike Lange will start only Verdi in the Cup. Kissenger. which finished an unlucky second over 2200 m at Woodville on Wednesday, will run in the Farewell Handicap with Brian Hibberd the rider. Thosada Rose worked with Harbour Shine over 800 m in 48.65. the last 600 m in 36.25. This was a smart time.
Emma, preparing for the Junction Plate at Awapuni. ran 1000 m in Imin 8.75. the last 600 m in 40.15. She has a wide draw to overcome in the 1600 m race.
