Marceau colt fetches $27,500
PA Hamilton The first yearling by the new sire Marceau to be offered al auction topped the opening session of the Dalgety Bloodstock yearling sale at Te Rapa yesterday when he fetched $27,500. Offered for sale on account of Haunui Farm. Manurewa. the Marceau colt was passed in at a final bid of $27,500. However, shortly after he changed hands outside the ring tor the same sum. He was purchased by the Palmerston North-based trainer. Malcolm Smith, for clients o! his stable. An attractive brown individual. the colt is from the Ruling mare. Royal Velvet, and thus a three-quarter brother to the outstanding racehorse in Australia. Prince Ruling. He is also
closely related to Hilldale. Rosehill. Rosie's Girl and Lavender Hill. . Bv the Star Kingdom horse Kaoru Star. Marceau won 11 races in Australia before being brought to New Zealand for duties at the Cambridge Stud. His oldest progeny are now yearlings. Selling proceeded quietly during the opening part of the morning session but picked up as expected when the first of the breeders preferred section came up for sale. An Englishman. John Craig, outlayed $15,500 for a grey filly by One Pound Sterling from Rolleta. by Fields of Eton from Rtola.
A One Pound Sterling colt was passed in shortly before for $15,000 alter a bid was disputed.
