Cruelty to dogs

Sir. - Allen Frampton's letter of January 13 well states the facts concerning the recent and shocking exposure of the hell that dogs destined for the dinner table in the Philippines undergo before their final bar-

baric killing by the subhuman perpetrators. It is big busines, indeed — not a few isolated cases. Thousands of dogs are involved. One need not necessarily be a person concerned for creatures in order to be sickened at yet another revelation of man's depravity directed at defenceless, dumb creatures while satisfying primitive desires and sheer greed. Only positive and strong action by people who care will put an 'end to this evil and awful crueltv.— Yours, etc.. ESTELLE WIN. Januarv 13. 1982.

Sir. In the December issue of the "Australian National Dog Newspaper" it has been suggested that the Australian Government put pressure on the Philippines Government because of the disgusting torture of dogs being offered for food for humans. Why not .join them with pressure from our own Government? Two countries are better than one to do this. Several members of President Marcos's family' are interested in dog showing, so a flood of letters in that direction could have some effect in stopping this cruel practice.— Yours, etc.. T. M. HAMILTON. Januarv 12. 1982.
