Wanganui's first-ever straight mile down Victoria Avenue in a smart 3min 58s. Gilchrist, displaying great grit, stuck on extraordinaly well but. slowly but surely. O'Donoghue maintained his stayer's run to ease out the Cantabrian on the post. Both recorded the identical time of 4min 3.25.
