Good wool firm at Invercargill
PA Invercargill t Although the Wool Board continued to provide considerable support at yesterday’s Invercargill sale, well grown ( crossbred hogget maintained a premium, and shorn hogget was in sellers’ favour. The official report said that, based on the previous sale of Napier wool at Wanganui on Wednesday, the market for crossbred fleece was inclined in buyers’ favour, crossbred cotts to 2.5 per cent cheaper, crossbred skirtings barely steady, and oddments unchanged. The catalogues contained 35,390 bales made up of 86.97 per cent fleece. 0.60 per cent lambs’ wool. 0.55 per cent crutchings, and 11.88 per cent oddments. The main fleece wool _ showed good average colour. ~ Some lots containing an occasional cotted fleece were discounted. The main competition came from the Far East, supported by both Eastern and Western European mills. The Wool Board bid on 64 per cent of the offering and had 20.45 per cent passed to it. The adjusted weighted average sale price was 256.63 c a kilogram. Based on this, a Government supplementary payment of 24.7 per cent will apply to all wool sold at the sale and all wool sold privately from midnight on Thursday to midnight last night.
