PA Wellington The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' European division, Mr Timothy Hannah, will be New Zealand's next High Commissioner in Papua New Guinea. Mr Hannah's appointment to Port Moresby, where he will succeed the present High Commissioner, Ms Alison Stokes, was announced yesterday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs (Mr Cooper). Mr Hannah will take up the post in April. Mr Cooper said that Papua New Guinea played an important role as the largest of the developing South Pacific island countries and had substantial interests in common with New Zealand.
