Poles seek work permits
PA Wellington Five Poles who jumped ship in Auckland had applied to the Immigration Division for temporary work permits, said the Director of Immigration, Mr D. D. Bond, last evening.
He said he did not think there was any need for the Poles to trave’l to Wellington before a decision was made. The five are believed to be the third mate and his wife, the fourth engineer, an ordinary seaman, and a cook,
from the 6944-tonne freighter Hanka Sawicka which has sailed for Vila from Auckland. They bring to eight the number of Poles who have jumped ship in New Zealand and sought to stay.
