Buller power plan ‘dormant’
Wellington reporter Plans to develop the Buller River for hydro power are still dormant, according to the Electricity Division of the Ministry of Energy. The hydro-electricity potential of the Buller is rated at an annual 4000 gigawatt hours, about the same as the lower Waitaki River. A spokesman for the Electricity Division said that nothing new had been done on the Buller and there had been no suggestion of starting serious investigations, as had been claimed by the Environmental Defence Society.
