Merivale bells
Sir,—l am surprised at Priscilla Walker’s letter (December 5). My. Christian teaching emphasises’ the importance of attending Church on the Sabbath. What better way is there to inform the faithful that worship is about to begin, than to ring the church bells? The long periods mentioned are in fact two five-minute periods before each service. I sincerely hope that, for at least the rest of my life, the bells of- St Mary’s will continue to call the faithful to worship. — Yours, etc., J. C. DODGSHUN. December 4, 1981.
