Merivale bells
Sir,—The church bells of Church Lane, Merivale, ring for long periods on Sundays irritating many of those in the area. Consider the outcry if a punk rock band played at 7.45 a.m., 9.45 a.m. and' 9.50 a.m. every Sunday so loudly that the residents were prevented from observing the Sabbath as a day of rest? Let peace reign on Sundays (quietly). Thank you.— Yours, etc., PRISCILLA WALKER. November 29. 1981.
[The vicar of St Mary's. Archdeacon Michael Brown, replies: “We have never had a comment such as this before, but I understand the feelings which prompted your correspondent to write. Most people, however, appreciate the bells of St Mary’s as part of our community life."]
