Westland parks
Sir,—The spheres of interest that have abounded in the South Westland area over the last few months have been astounding: The national parks include the Waikukupa and South Okarito forests; the Mountaineering Federation has set up an inquiry to look into possible wilderness areas; conservationists want complete protection of native resources; the Lands and Survey along with the Parks and Reserves Board are touring the area now; the Minister of Lands along with the Lands and Survey Department propose a complete commercial exploitation of the area. Why is there such a keen interest from afar? Why is the one positive and most constructive step not taken? Come and live in our communities. — Yours, etc., KATHRYN BALDWIN. November 26, 1981.
