P.S.A. to pursue salary adjustment

About 500 members of the Public Service Association in Christchurch resolved at a meeting at the Town Hall yesterday that the P.S.A. should “vigorously pursue” the full annual general salary adjustment and oppose the application of restrictions on occupational groups which have not been surveyed by the Pay Research Unit. The resolution was passed with one abstention after the P.S.A.’s vice-president. Mr J.

Swinburne, reported progress on the review. The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) and a State Services Commissioner, Mr R. Kelly, were reported to have said that only 1 per cent separated the parties from agreement on the adjustment to bring Stale servants’ pay rates into line with those of the private sector; but the secretary of the Combined State Unions. Mr W. B. Tucker, said that the 1 per cent difference was at the top of the scale and that the distance widened in the lower grades.
