Lilley springs back

NZPA-Reuter Murray Lilley, the New Zealander who now lives in Toronto, gave the world squash championships its finest match so far when he took the No. 11 seed, Phil Kenyon (England) the full distance in Toronto on Saturday. Lilley, aged 34, who does not practice as much as he did when he was ranked tenth in the world, pulled himself back from the brink of defeat against a man 10 years younger. It was an hour and 26 minutes before Kenyon, who hopes to succeed Jonah Barrington as the British champion next month, reached the third round with a 9-7, 9-4, 4-9. 5-9, 9-2 win. Had Lilley not allowed a lead of 6-3 in the first game to disappear he may have had an upset win but from 32 in the final game he seemed tired.
