Chch sponsor of award

Christchurch City became an official sponsor of the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme yesterday. The licence for the awards was received by the Mayoress, Mrs Judith Hay, at a reception for supporters of a newly formed city awards group. Mrs Hay is the new group’s convener. The setting up of the group means that those who begin an award at school or in

another area, then leave, will be able to continue. Young unemployed persons will also be able to work for a Duke of Edinburgh award. The award is a very flexible type of Outward Bound programme which can be done from home. All Duke of Edinburgh schemes are selfsupporting, but initial promotional expenses for the new Christchurch group will be met mostly by a Rotary club.
