Promotion test for organ fund
The Christchurch Town Hall will spend $5OOO on publicity to attract finance for a new pipe organ. The money was voted by the Town Hair Management Board yesterday after considerable discussion on the need for the organ. ; Councillor Helen Garrett said that town halls in other centres had organs and the board should show more enthusiasm for the project: Cr R. Lester said the money would be used for a promotion to judge the pub-
lie support for an organ. The total cost of the organ was estimated at $480,000. The board then adjourned to the Town Hall restaurant to consider installing an access ramp for the disabled. Dr G. Lewis, who is dis-' abled, told the board that disabled persons did not use the restaurant because, access was difficult. The board will investigate alternatives for improving access to the restaurant for the disabled.
