Voting concerns council
Differing opinions over council policy has made the, Waimairi County Council “a bit of a laughing stock,” Cr M. P. Hobby told a council meeting last evening. Cr Hobby was referring to the voting of the two council representatives on the Metropolitan Refuse Disposal Committee. The representatives, Crs I. G. Clark and A. A. Adcock, have often taken opposing stands on committee issues. The council instructed both councillors in future to follow council policy when voting. Differences will be settled by the County Chairman, Mr D. B. Rich.
“The council must put its house properly in order,” Mr Rich said. Cr F. S. Blogg said, “it appears that this thing is a bit of a political football. This is most unfortunate.” Saving money? One councillor thinks he may have found a moneymaker for the Christchurch Transport Board. Cr Clark intends to present a full report to the board on a Canadian idea that allows bus passengers to travel anywhere in the metropolitan area for a set fee. This pass lasts for about two hours.
