McEnroe free for final
NZPA-Reuter New York The American tennis, player, John McEnroe, will be free to play in the Davis Cup final against Argentina in spite of his pending 21-day suspension, said a Men’s International Professional Tennis Council (M.1.P.T.C.) official yesterday. Mark Meyers, the M.I.P.T.C. assistant administrator, said the suspension would bar McEnroe only from grand prix tourna-
ments: “The council has no jurisdiction over Davis Cup,” he said. McEnroe is expected to lead the United States in the Davis Cup final in Cincinatti from December 11 to 13. McEnroe, the Wimbledon and United States Open champion, faces an automatic three-week suspension after running up fines totalling $7OO when he lost to his compatriot, Jimmy. Connors, in the London Grand Prix final on Monday.
