Quiet Win earns open class ranking

By

G. K. Yule

Quiet Win advanced to an open class ranking when he came out on top in the Ollivier Stakes at Addington Raceway last evening. It was a race noteworthy for the failure of the favourites, Supeior Chance and Melton Monarch.

The Southland-owned Quiet Win got away well from No. 2 at the barrier and he had cover' until Heather Chief worked to the front at the 1100 m. Michael de Filippi sent Quiet Win clear with about 500 m left. Right Bower

moved into second soon after, but Quiet Win was soon clear and he maintained a lead of two lengths at the line after one mile in 2min o.ls. The pace was on the last 400 m in 27.85. It was Quiet Win’s first win for the season.

Dundas, handy all the way, came with a stayer’s run to cut Right . Bower out of second by more than a length. Then there was a length and a half to False Regal, which came on in great style to beat Heather Chief for fourth by a neck.

The favourite, Superior Chance, was three wide for much of the way, leaving him with nothing in reserve when the pressure was applied. He finished eighth. Melton Monarch broke after little more than 100 m, checking Lincmac.
