N.R.B. at ‘crisis point’

PA Blenheim Road funding in New Zealand is at crisis point, says the deputy leader of Social Credit. Mr G. T. Knapp. He said he had made a statement on this subject at the end of August, when he had pointed out the need to increase the National Roads Board’s allocation this year by up to 40 per cent just to maintain the status quo. Mr Kriapp said the N.R.B. must receive at least $3lO million for its next year's allocation if the country was to avoid a complete breakdown of the roading system. He said his questions in Parliament showed that up to $6OO million in revenue was taken by the Government from road users while less than 50 per cent was spent on roading. The Government had a habit of continually siphoning off road user revenue for use in the consolidated account and spending in other areas, he said.
