Lion bid helps market
The effort by Mr A. D. Myers, of Auckland to extend his interest in Lion Breweries to 19.9 per cent, aided other leading issues on & firm, busy New Zealand sharemarket yesterday. Mr Myers succeeded in his bid by late morning, and withdrew from the market. MSI Corporation was actively traded after news that Repco, Ltd, of will increase its interest in the New Zealand firm. Allflex Holdings rose 3c to 170 c on an excellent result in its latest half-year, and T. J. Edmonds sold at 330 c on a low turnover, 10c above the cash price offered by Buntings. The mining and oil sector of the market was easier. The N.Z.U.C. industrial index firmed 3.61 points to close at 665.39.
