School uniforms
Sir,—Social Credit plans to subsidise, school uniforms. Would it not be more realistic to scrap uniforms for schoolchildren altogether, and with the money they would save, take on more teachers thus reducing class size and improving the quality of the educational system? To give parents, instead of schools, the right to decide what their children wear during school hours seems to me more in line with the freedom for New Zealanders that Mr Beetham and his party so often preach.— Yours, etc., F. J. WEBSTER. . . November 13, 1981.
