Corningware Corningware is making a comeback with’ a new range of French-styled glass ceramic ware. The advantage Comingware has over conventional saucepans and casseroles is its versatility. Because it can withstand dramatic temperature Corningware can be taken from the freezer or refrigerator and placed directly into a hot oven or on to a gas ring or plate. The same dish, because it is so attractive, can then be used on the table as a serving dish. A further feature is the removable handle which unclips for easy storage in the freezer and is then re-at-tached when cooking on top of the stove. Corningware is dishwasher proof and can also be used in a microwave oven. Available from most department stores and kitchen-

ware shops, it offers a wide range of dishes and sizes, including: 2-litre saucepan with cover $41.25; 3-ljtre casserole with cover J’556.45; 16cm frypan and - cover $33.70; set of two 250 ml ramekins $28.30. Cyclists’ helmets A variety of cyclists’ helmets are available on the New Zealand market but there exists no safety or quality assessment to help the consumer choose which to buy. With the growing popularity of cycling irr this country, the number of injuries sustained by cyclists is rising steadily. In 1979 more than 1000 injured cyclists were admitted to hospital. Recent research evidence from Australia has shown that about half the deaths of cyclists are due to head injury. , With such information' to hand, various individuals and

organisations have suggested that a national standard for protective helmets is desirable. Accordingly the Standards Association of New Zealand has arranged a meeting, to be held today at the S.A.N.Z. headquarters in Wellington, to determine the need for a national standard. Representatives of the following bodies have been invited: cyclists clubs and associations, the New Zealand Parent Teachers’

Association, the Department of Education, manufacturers of protective helmets, the Ministry of Transport, the Department of Health, D.S.LR., and the Accident Compensation Commisson. Radio N.Z. cassettes Radio New Zealand has just introduced its Christmas collection of cassettes from Replay Radio. Popular programmes, sporting events and personalities have been captured on tape for use in your record library or for you to give as gifts. . Children are well catered for. There is a Buzz O’Bumble cassette for the tinies, and Dick Weir, host of “Video Despatch,” presents his versions of popular bedtime stories. A cassette for older children includes tips on how to survive in the bush, plus all about bicyclemotocross.

Cassettes of New Zealanc documentaries and Poly nesian festival music art also available. These could make ideal overseas Christmas gifts as they are light and easy to post.

Other musical offerings include orchestral favourites, highlights of the 1981 brass band championships, and Malcolm McNeill singing "The Great American Songwriters.”
