Armalight’s mile rate
Armalight’s mile rate for the Benson and Hedges Free-for-all. at Addington Raceway on Friday was Imin 55.45. After Armalight had created a world record of 2min 23.5 s for the mobile 2000 m. the timekeepers, Messrs S. Nicholls and A. Gibson, announced that the mile rate was Imin 55.45. but this was later amended to Imin 55.65. The timekeepers subsequently approached the mathematics department at Canterbury University and it was confirmed that the original calculation of Imin 55.4 s for the mile rate was correct. No allowance is made for such a mile rate for metric distances in the conversion booklet published by the Inter-Dorninion Trotting Council.
