Bets up over $½M
Bets on the Canterbury Jockey Club’s New Zealand Cup meeting this year were up $580,130.50 on last year. T.A.B. betting accounted for $2,933,818 of the total of $4,731,575 and increased $405,935.50 on 1980. On-course betting for the meeting increased by $174,195 to $1,797,757. The cup day crowd of 9616 on Saturday was down 750 on last year, but course bets edged ahead by $3635.
