Lillee hammers Pakistan
Dennis Lillee was the centre of attention, and not only for the quality and effectiveness of his pace bowling, as Australia gained a first innings lead of 118 runs over Pakistan in the first cricket test at Perth on Saturday. The Pakistan batsmen had no answers to the bowling of Lillee, in particular, and Terry Aiderman, and were bundled out for 62. The whole innings lasted only 108 min and only Sarfraz Nawaz, with 26, reached double figures. It was Lillee who ripped through the Pakistan middleorder, and he finished with five for 18 from nine overs. Alderman claimed four wickets, and Jeff Thomson gained the other after Lillee was rested. Earlier in the day, after Australia resumed at 159 for seven, Lillee staged a protest at the slow; Pakistan over-rate by sitting cross-legged on the pitch as Imran Khan walked back to bowl the fourth delivery of the opening over. Lillee had played the first three balls defensively and hit the fourth through mid-wicket for two runs. He then went for a stroll towards square leg as Imran again retreated to his bowling mark. Imran’s reply was a superb bouncer which Lillee
just managed to fend away with the handle of the bat.'
The Pakistan demise began with Lillee’s fifth delivery when Mudassar Nazar hung his bat at a lifting ball well wide of the off stump. Aiderman chimed in with a dismissal from his first ball in a test on Australian soil, having Rizwan-Uz-Zaman leg before wicket. Pakistan never recovered and had lost eight wickets before exceeding New Zealand's record lowest test score of 26.
