Primary staffing

Sir,—For some time we have become increasingly annoyed about the apparent lack of concern shown by the Government over the loss of young teachers from the teaching profession. At the end of this year many young teachers will be forced to seek other employment. This not only adds to our unemployment problem but provides greater competition for those untrained people already trying to find employment. The cost of training and providing positions for teachers while bonded is too great an investment to be wasted and not returned to the community to benefit our children. So the Minister has chopped the training college intake — but how will this help those without jobs this December? We must lobby all M.P.s and candidates to obtain better conditions for our children and help secure long term positions for a greater number of. trained teachers. Education deserves a bigger portion of the tax take—Yours, etc., W. L. HOLDEN. Central New Brighton School P.T.A. November 11, 1981.
