PROFILE: Sprawling rural electorate with several urban pockets, including the satellite town of Rangiora. Large areas of forest and sheep runs sweeping north to Marlborough. 1978 result: National, 9729; Labour, 8584; Social Credit, 2195; Values, 433. National’s majority of 1145 makes Rangiora a fairly marginal seat. Labour needs a 3.2 per cent swing to win.
