Supermarkets in wrangle
Five big companies in the retail grocery trade have filed joint proceedings in the High Court to obtain an interim injunction to have Countdown Wholesale Warehouse in Sydenham closed until the court hears an injunction application brought by the Christchurch City Council. The action is being taken against Fenhall Nominees, Ltd, as landlord, and J. Rattray and Sons, Ltd, as merchant, which runs Countdown
Wholesale Warehouse in Sydenham. The application for an interim injunction—brought by City South Supermarket, a subsidiary of G.U.S. Wholesalers Ltd; Woolworths (N.Z.), Ltd; Wardell-Kincaids Ltd; Keystore Wholesale Grocery, Ltd; and Foodstuffs Christchurch, Ltd—will be heard in the High court on November 16. The City Council’s application for an injunction will be heard on December 7.
