Test TV figures

Sir,—We would like to question the validity of the figures quoted by Ces Blazey regard-

ing television audiences during the third test between the All Blacks and the Springboks. Mr Blazey states “the figures are official," as if. that is all that is required. This is typical of other propagandist comments made by the Rugby Union in attempts to make people, and perhaps themselves, believe that the majority of the people in New Zealand actually wanted the tour. Since when has Mr Blazey been an authority on such matters? Could the source of this information, and proof of its reliability be given? Also, Mr Blazey must be well aware, one does not necessarily watch such programmes for enjoyment. May we suggest that while perhaps half watched the “game" (as it was questionably called) the other half hoped passionately for a cancellation. — Yours etc.,

Pam Bidwell, Yolanda Wiseman.

[Mr B. R. Usmar. secretary N.Z.R.F.U. replies: “The source of the television audience figures quoted by Mr Ces Blazey was McNair Surveys, N.Z., Ltd.”]
