Chch burglary brings jail

PA Dunedin In the District Court at Dunedin yesterday Judge Murray said he had no alternative but to impose a further term of imprisonment on Dale William O’Shea, aged 22, an unemployed kitchen hand, who appeared for sentence on eight charges of burglary. On the night of September 14, O’Shea broke into four businesses at 10 Bedford Row, Christchurch, and took $26,591 in gold and goods from Bendall Importers, Ltd. He also burgled two premises in Dunedin on the night of October 11, and two at Gore on the night of October 12.

More than $12,000 of th* goods taken fron Christchurch are still out standing. The defence counsel, Mr F M. Farr, said O’Shea genuinely wanted to change his lifestyle, but as these charges had closely followed other burglary charges the Judge said there was no alternative but imprisonment. On three of -the charges, including the burglary of Bendall Importers, he was convicted and sentenced to two years jail, and was convicted and discharged on the remaining charges.
