Aid bill passed
The United States Senate has approved the 1982 Foreign Aid Authorisation Bill,, easing restraints on American policy towards Pakistan, Angola, Chile, and Argentina but imposing stiff curbs on aid to El Salvador. Senate committee aides said the Administration was pleased Congress had repealed bans on aid to antiMarxist rebels in Angola and conditionally lifted bans on aid to Chile. Argentina and Pakistan. But it was not happy about the Senate vote to order a cut-off in aid to El Salvador if the Administration could not certify every six months that the strifetorn country was making a concerted effort to control human rights violations, implement land reforms, and hold early free elections, they said. — Washington.
