PA Auckland The loan of 45 seventeenth century paintings valued at more than $6 million has been confirmed for an exhibition at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery next year.
The paintings will come from public and private collections in Britain, Europe, and the United States for exhibition in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch from June to September.
The director of the Auckland Gallery, Dr T. L. R. Wilson, has spent five weeks overseas arranging the loan and transport of the paintings.
He told a meeting of the gallery’s management board yesterday that only in the Soviet Union had he encountered a lack of co-operation. The board seeks sponsorship for the exhibition, “Still Life in the Age of Rembrandt,” and has asked the Government to indemnify it.
