Salonen retains lead
NZPA-Reuter Abidjan Timo Salonen, of Finland, retained his lead in the Ivory Coast car rally yesterday as the treacherously muddy roads forced another 10 drivers to retire. Only nine of the 51 starters were left in the rally near
the end of the 1370 km 'second stage, officials said. Salonen’s Datsun was closely followed by the Toyota Celica of a Swede, Per Eklund. M. Mitri, of the Ivory Coast, was third in a Datsun and Kenya’s Shekhar Mehta fourth, also in a Datsun.
