Addington market Good demand for medium prime steers, heifers

The demand for mediumweight prime steers and heifers was very strong at the Addington market yesterday. . All types of prime cattle sold well.

Prime lambs and hoggets were slightly easier, but old ewes improved. . Store sheep were easy to clear. Prime lambs Too many smaller overfat prime lambs were included in the yarding of 409 (537 last week). The best of the lambs went to J 27.90 but most sales were made in the $20.30 to $23.60 bracket. Values were:Large lambs: $22.50 to $23.70. Medium lambs: $19.50 to $22.10.

The best price was $574 for an Angus cross steer from T. E. Elliot (Cheviot). Millar Holdings (McQueens Valley) sold a Here-ford-Friesian cross heifer for $420 and Glenmount Farm (Cheviot) received $420 for an Angus cross cow.

Steers and heifers to 220 kg sold between 166 c and 170 c a kilogram; from 220 kg to 270 kg, from 168 c to 173 c; and over 270 kg, to. 169 c. Values were:—

Store pigs Competition from outside buyers ensured a good sale for store pigs. Good quality pigs were at a similar price to last week, but lighter weaners were $5 to $7 dearer.
