Mr Knox speaks on Cancun

Inequality between the rich and poor nations of the world was similar to the day-to-day struggle of the trade union movement in New Zealand, said the president of the Nevf. Zealand Federation of Labour, Mr W, J. Knox. Mr Knox, commenting in a statement on the importance of the meeting of world heads of State at Cancun, Mexico, to discussworld development and co-operation, said the redistribution of wealth to the poorer countries was the same struggle faced in the trade union movement in New Zealand. “Whether it be the demand for fair trading ... practices between nations ,or the demands of workers to the right to secure employment, reasonable working conditions, adequate income, and more control over their lives, it is the same struggle. While conditions of New Zealand workers cannot be compared with those in the Third World, the connection must be made that the troubles of both arise from exploita-' tion." he said.
