Crosby clinches title

NZPA London The New Zealand rider, Graeme Crosby, finished his career with Suzuki over the week-end by clinching the British Formula One championship, winning the final 500 cc race in the series. Crosby won by 17 seconds from Marc Fontan. of France. Kork Ballington, of South Africa, was third.

Sunday’s victory at Brands Hatch added up to eight wins and one second placing in the season which started in April. It was Crosby’s last race for Suzuki. The two agreed to part company when Suzuki declared it could not provide a grand prix bike for next season. “There was no disagree-

ment,” said Crosby. “I want a grand prix bike and Suzuki couldn’t provide it — so I have left them and am looking elsewhere.” Crosby has flown to Geneva to attend the formal presentation of his world champion’s shield, badge, and scroll. Then he heads for the United States to take part in a televised “super stars champion” series on motor cycling. He will return to New Zealand for Christmas and from then on his plans are not definite at this stage.
