Air fare ‘war’lashed
Two French officials have sharply criticised airline deregulation policies adopted by the United States and Britain that have led to lower fares. The French Transport Minister (Mr Charles Fiterman) told a conference of the International Air Transport Association that sharp fare cuts meant airlines concentrated on the most profitable routes to the detriment of the public service role of air transport. The association’s president (Mr Pierre Gaudet), who is also head of Air France, said “excessive competition had produced disorder and anarchy.” — Cannes.
