Mr Reagan told of N.Z.’s fears
PA Wellington The United States Ambassador (Mr Monroe Browne) has postponed a trip to Australia in order to help New Zealand communicate its opposition to proposed American legislation which- could jeopardise meat exports worth $4OO million. The Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) said Mr Browne stayed in New Zealand yesterday instead of going to visit the Armed Forces “Kangaroo” exercise, and would later get in. touch with
the New Zealand Government.
Mr Muldon said New Zealand was “asking our friends in the United States Administration to have a look at it in view of the damage to' New Zealand.” Amendments to the United States Farm Bill, passed last week by Congress, ban imports from countries using chemicals and drugs not approved in the United States. The bill has yet to be signed by President Reagan, who Mr Muldoon says, is opposed to it.
