Pollution campaign

A Christchurch anti-pollu-tion campaign that will employ 26 young people in house-to-house promotion will start in early December after a three-week training programme.

Organised by the St Albans Residents’ Association, the promotion campaign has been approved by the Labour Department for a special work scheme.

The scheme, under the Project Employment Programme, will last for six months, providing jobs for a supervisor and 25 trainees. During training the

workers will be taught about air pollution' and Ways to prevent it. Their instructors will include City and Government health officers, a Clean Air Society representative, a chest physician, a psychologist, a chemical engineer, and Residents’ Association members.

Householders will be told how to help eliminate air pollution, especially the high winter levels caused mainly by polluting fuels. The Christchurch City Council will act as the project’s banker, and be reimbursed bv the Government.
