‘Tourism grants will continue’
PA Wellington The Minister of Tourism (Mr Quigley) has announced that the Tourism Export Programme Grants Scheme will be continued with greatly increased Government funding.
The scheme, which the Tourist and Publicity Department has been running for more than a year, offers eligible travel companies assistance of 80c in the dollar to develop markets. Of this, 64c is paid in cash before the promotional programme begins.
Mr Quigley said that the Government had called for a review of the export programme grants scheme earlier this year to evaluate its effectiveness, and as a result of this and the Government’s growing confidence in the future of tourism, had increased funding from $lOO,OOO last year to $500,000 this year.
Mr Quigley said the scheme could be used to market new holiday activities or facilities or to break in new markets overseas.
