Deal wins feature speedway race
Geoff Deal driving a Mklll Cortina won an exciting race in the Coca-Cola feature at the Woodford Glen Speedway on Sunday. Deal drew a* favourable grid position and led from the first lap. After four laps he was challenged by Gary May (MH Cortina). These two raced side byside for several laps with the lead changing often until the final lap when May received a nudge from a charging Tony Cardwell who had fought his way up from the rear of the field. May spun off and Deal carried on to win. Dick Byrne was admitted to hospital with back injuries after his Chevette struck the concrete wall on the side of the track. Byrne had previously won the first four-cylinder race and was third in the second race. The C.R.C. driver of the meeting award was won by the stock car driver, Brian Johnston.
