Historic meeting
Pope John Paul II has held a historic meeting with the Ethiopian Orthodox Patriarch. Abuna Tekle Haimanot. the first between leaders of the two Churches in modern times. About half of Ethiopia’s 23 million people belong to the Ethiopian Church, which broke with Rome more than 1500 years ago. The Pope said that the unity of Christians was more urgent today than ever.— Rome.
