Woman sentenced

PA Auckland A woman who dropped bottles and broken glass on Rugby Park at Gisborne the day ‘before the Springboks opened their New Zealand tour, has been sentenced to 80 hours community service. Mereana Pango Pitman, aged 29, a student,, of Grey Lynn, appeared yesterday before Judge Blackwood in the District Court at Auckland. She had previously been convicted on a charge

of depositing dangerous litter. She had pleaded not guilty. The Court had heard that on ' July 21 Pitman was a passenger in a vehicle which was driven on to the field at Rugby Park. She was seen to throw bottles and broken glass from a sack on to the field. Pitman told the Court that her actions had been morally and politically motivated and she had not intended to harm anyone.
