Rent change sought
PA Wellington The Government will be asked to fix rentals for Housing Corporation units at a set proportion of the after-tax income of tenants. It was noted at a meeting of the Lower Hutt City Council that rents were now
based on one-sixth of a tenant's gross income. The council itself had an after-tax system based on one-sixth of net income, a formula which councillors felt was much more equitable. The council decided to urge the Government to adopt the after-tax system.
